Life Drawing Studio
THE SECOND TUESDAY OF EACH MONTH
MARCH THROUGH NOVEMBER
6:30PM TO 9:00PM

Drawing is the foundation of the arts, the basis of all eventual understanding of every form of painting, including abstract, figure, landscape, etc. Drawing classes stress the comprehension of value, proportion and scale.

Bring your own drawing utensils and paper/newsprint or whatever you wish to draw on. This is a laid back group of art enthusiasts that gather to learn from each other and draw. All levels of experience welcome. Adults only; under 18 with parent permission.

This 4-week COURSE meets Friday, oCTOBER 4, 11, 18, & 25
from 1Pm to 3pm

In this class students will explore the visual effects of color and how our eyes and minds perceive it. Students will make a painting a week based upon the various visual effects we will be studying in this class. The supply list is the same as Color Theory 1. 

*This Advanced Color Theory class is for students who have already completed Color Theory & Design 1 taught by Rachel Crawford.

Friday, october 11 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm

Each student will work with their hands to sculpt spooky ghosts for Halloween! Customize your ghosts with carving tools, stamps, attachments, and underglazes to add color. Pieces will then be fired, and students will be given a time to pick up their little friends!

This 5-Class Course is held
wednesday, october 16, 23, 30, & november 6 & 13
from 1pm to 4pm

In this introductory workshop, students will explore the theories and techniques of larger scale abstract painting. Zona will lead students through the theories and techniques of color-mixing, effectively applying paint, composing visual space, and understanding abstract language.

Each student will develop their personal expression to further explore the process of abstract art. Students will investigate composition using the formal elements and principles of design and find their natural “mark.” Over this five-week course, students will be introduced to techniques in working intuitively, investigating composition using the “formal elements of design,” and developing a personal style. Students can expect to create at least three 18”x24” abstract pieces. Zona hopes to provide her students with the tools to explore new concepts, develop a creative voice, and build confidence as artists!

Single-session workshop
Saturday, november 2nd
9am - 4pm (STUDENTS WILL HAVE A LUNCH BREAK FROM 12PM-1PM)

Are you interested in learning how to make unique and handmade cards and books for the holidays? Join Rachel in this hands on workshop where you will learn how to work with a gel plate and acrylic paints to monoprint on paper! Students will learn how to turn their printed paper into a book cover to create a basic pamphlet stitch booklet. Students will leave with a completed project.

Skills learned: 

  • basic monoprinting using a gel plate

  • basic bookbinding

  • basic single pamphlet stitch

friday, november 1st & 15th
4:30pm and 6:00pm

Have a special someone you want to create a memorable evening with, or do you and your friends need a night out?
Join us for this “couples” course! Each couple creates hand thrown pieces on the potter’s wheel. Instructor Janie Dick will teach students how to work with clay to throw their very own vessel. Create a variety of pieces, then choose the best one to complete the firing process. Students will work with stamps and tools to add texture to their pieces, attachments, and choose glazes to add color. Pieces are then fired, and students will receive an email when they are ready to be picked up!

Want to have a girls night, a date night, or a night of family fun? Join us for a night of wine and pottery!

Join Janie Dick and learn about the ancient technique of Sgraffito! Janie will prepare plates painted with black underglaze which allows students to focus on carving unique designs onto the plates. Once fired, plates will be black, white, and glossy!

Join STAA and Zona for “Part 2” of her popular Abstract Mixed-Media Workshop! In their Beginner’s course, students learned about the formal elements of design and discovering their artistic voices. Now, put these skills to use and continue your education with Zona by going deeper into your abstract expression as an artist. Zona will guide you in blind contour drawing, spontaneous line drawings, observational painting, and composition investigation. Explore these new skills and work intuitively to find your natural “mark” as an artist. Students will learn what it means to create a cohesive series as they complete paintings throughout the course.

Camps


this 3-day camp is monday, november 25th to wednesday, november 27th
from 9am to noon

Everyone’s favorite pottery camp is back! Resident ceramics instructor, Janie Dick, will explore old and new techniques used throughout history in ceramics with students. Campers will create their own Thanksgiving serving platters, ceramic pumpkins, turkeys, and more! Students will have at least three to four finished pieces.
Campers will work with clay and use a variety of techniques to create fabulous ceramic pieces. While developing their fine and major motor skills, children will be encouraged to use their imaginations to create functional and sculptural work on the potter’s wheel and through handbuilding techniques.
