Land and Sea: A Collection of Photographs by Adam Israel Valadez
Opening Saturday, August 17, 2024 from 6 - 9pm

The St. Tammany Art Association is excited to host a solo exhibition of Houston native, Adam Israel Valadez. Land and Sea: A Collection of Photographs opens during Covington’s White Linen Night for Public Art on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

The work eloquently describes the skate and surf culture of the third coast and marries documentary and fine art genres through raw captures of honest humanity in candid films and spontaneous stills. The images and films presented are invitations to forge deeper connections with our environment, embracing the fluidity of motion and the profound harmony between humans and nature.

Valadez’s passion for photography is born from his childhood, where memories were etched on super 8 reels by his grandfather, and family events and holidays were immortalized through the lens of a manual Nikon by his father. These nostalgic influences ignited Valadez’s own creative flame, driving him to capture the overlooked nuances of the skateboarding and surfing culture and its vibrant characters.

The photographs and short films in the exhibit explain the raw intensity and passionate dedication of skateboarders and the intimate relationship between surfers and nature in the coastal landscape. Viewers gain a deeper understanding of and appreciation for the beauty and emotions that define the experiences of skateboarding and surfing.
