Tom walton: time in louisiana
april 12 - may 24, 2025

exhibition opening during spring for art
april 12, 2025 from 6:00pm - 9:00pm

The St. Tammany Art Association is honored to present Time in Louisiana, a solo exhibition of oil paintings by Tom Walton.

Time in Louisiana is a collection of sometimes figurative paintings, oil on linen, set in domestic spaces. The paintings are evocative of universal themes such as home, shared spaces, and even isolation in those spaces. Painting from direct observation, Walton describes his surroundings, inviting the viewer into paintings that feel deeply personal but are not limited to autobiography. The work is liminal in that it captures a moment that is otherwise looked over; here is the time when something has already occurred, or something is about to happen. The moments are fragile in their evanescence, quiet, and meditative. The paintings are gifts in that they honestly describe these moments.

Walton’s process is one in which he practices focus with intention, but with restriction. Because of the care Walton gives to his practice of observation, his paintings are deeply attentive to his subjects, giving them almost formal and symbolic resonance.  The restriction is more the permission to allow the act of painting to lead the work. The paintings are content inspired, and yet not content driven.

Cecilia goett’s Whispers of the south: Sunsets, petals, & Hums

Cecilia Says:
”Whispers of the South: Sunsets, Petals, and Hums is a collection born from the rhythms of Southern Louisiana — its golden evenings, the quiet sway of wildflowers, the sudden magic of hummingbirds migrating, and magnolias blooming — a wondrous experience of life unfolding.

As an international artist who found home here two years ago, I’ve come to understand this place not just through sight but through feeling. Time spent in nature here is never hurried; it is a connection beyond words, a moment of stillness beneath ancient oaks, a presence that moves with the breeze, the water, and the sky. In this stillness, I listen, and through my art, I respond.

This collection is my offering to that gentle whisper — a glimpse of the South as I have come to know it.”
