CELEBRATING NATURE WITH ART INSPIRED BY THE CHITIMACHA TRIBE
Taught by Jessica Danby
Students will create basket and tapestry weaving with natural fibers, inspired by Chitimacha artist Ida Thomas; they will draw botanical Illustrations from their own urban gardening project from native plants such as sunflowers, squash and beans; students will be introduced to story-telling necklaces and make autobiographical necklaces of their own and they’ll draw a large scale abstract drawing inspired by Louisiana butterflies. We will also create recycled vases for students to use for their own container gardens and create self-portrait chia “pets”.
